No matter what anyone says, this is a real horror movie its not all about the scary moment, movies like this are what makes it exciting!.Lets start with saying that I'm the biggest SAW fan and this is like another piece of heaven to me, people who don't agree or those kind of movies aren't their type, they shouldn't review and downgrade it. It was really exciting and fun, and as expected like the first part, smart, mysterious and best of all gore!, there's no limit and you don't know what to expect next. This movie is a bomb and any fan of Saw or movies like it will <more>
enjoy this one, i almost jumped of my seat from excitement it just had that feeling, since Saw ended, and when i watched the collection i had the same thrilling feeling back which was AMAZING.All in all it's actually a great movie with a good storyline, i recommend you and all horror and gore fans to watch it.10/10 for sure!!
Stylish, fun & gory escape (by smashthecontrolmachine)
Really a good horror film needs to accomplish a few key tasks to be considered a success. One, it needs to draw the viewer in. Two, it needs to keep the viewer engaged tense & on the edge of their seat . Three, it needs to make you at least to some degree care about the victims. Finally, it should be memorable with memorable & interesting characters & plot twists. I feel this film truly has all of the above down to a science. In The Collection, the psychopath killer is interesting & the contraptions he uses to trap, mutilated and/or kill his captives are certainly engaging. <more>
Viewers will find themselves engrossed in a epically gory thrill ride that's as stylishly fun as it is a dark escape. Not a moment of filler here, every scene has it's place here and none are wasteful. This film is riveting, thrilling and thought provoking. What would you do if you and a friend or even a stranger were caught in a life or death situation? Would you be a hero trying to save the other person or a coward and just try & save yourself?
Best Horror of 2012 better than the original (by keepitgoan)
If you like horror movies, and like the Collector, you'll love this gem. It is much better than the original imo as the characters are better and have a fighting chance. There is some awesome action scenes and you really get the feeling your walking through a haunted warehouse except could get offed at any moment! For Horror movie buffs that like your gore but hate hostel and the dysfunctional type of new age scary movie this is not it! Doesn't mix sex and violence which is always a plus for those of us that enjoy watching the guts without the creepy 'who would enjoy this?' <more>
kind of feeling. You have to understand, most reviewers out there are terrible at what they do. there is no creative talent in their blood so instead of trying to find some they just try to belittle something else to feel better. In many cases they look for the thing that impresses them most, so believe me, watch it : you'll dig. This movie is everything one could want from a sequel to the collector and more, no doubt about it.
Everything is bigger, bloodier and more gruesomely entertaining! (by Hellmant)
'THE COLLECTION': Four and a Half Stars Out of Five Sequel to the 2009 grisly slasher film 'THE COLLECTOR' once again written by horror meisters Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton and directed by Dunstan. Dunstan and Melton are the team that wrote all three 'FEAST' films, the last four 'SAW' films, 'PIRANHA 3DD' and the original 'COLLECTOR' which Dunstan also directed . This installment has the survivor from the original film Josh Stewart leading a team of mercenaries into the warehouse of a deranged serial killer, he just escaped from, in <more>
order to rescue the daughter of a successful businessman. If you enjoyed the first film you're sure to love this follow-up. Everything is bigger, bloodier and more gruesomely entertaining if you're a horror fan . The film begins with Arkin Stewart , the hero from the first film, escaping his captor 'The Collector' played by stuntman Randall Archer this time at a club where he brutally murders dozens of people. As he's escaping he witness Elena Emma Fitzpatrick being taken by 'The Collector'. He makes his way to a hospital where he's approached by a man named Lucello Lee Tergesen who wants Arkin to lead him and a team of mercenaries in to the killer's lair a booby trapped warehouse in order to rescue Elena. Lucello works for Elena's wealthy father, Mr. Peters Christopher McDonald , and will stop at nothing to bring Elena back home to him. He forces Arkin to enter the warehouse with his team and into a maze of horror once again. I heard one critic call the movie the 'ALIENS' of the series and that's an assessment I definitely agree with. It's a sequel that boldly expands on the mythology of the first and ups the bloody ante very aggressively the body count goes through the roof ! It also follows a very similar formula to the James Cameron horror sequel classic; the sole survivor from the first film leads a team of gung ho mercenaries back in to the mouth of madness he just escaped from. If you're a fan of the genre and the original film you're sure to enjoy this installment, if you're not a fan you probably won't like the film. I really enjoy this series in particular and very much look forward to a third installment; I think it's the slasher genre done to perfection just about . I hope enough other true fans discover this series in order for it to draw the cult following it deserves and continue it's bloody slasher film legacy.Watch our movie review show 'MOVIE TALK' at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v sD9BHpPUnE8
This film was very fast paced and entertaining and the acting was okay. This film was very bloody and gory,so people who like blood and gore will enjoy this film,i personally don't care much about blood and gore,i just like to have a good story or at least a decent one that i can follow, and i must say this film is very watchable.Be warned though this film may be too violent for some people and some scenes are a little disturbing. for the most part this film was not very scary it was more on the side of creepy or should i say the killer was creepy.the film had a few scenes that were quite <more>
dark, and the lead girl in the film was okay,i didn't mind her character at all,she seemed pretty cool for the most part and i guess that's what i liked about her character, she was not annoying or stupid like most characters in horror films usually are and that was a plus side. i also liked the lead man from the first film his character was a Badass! and to be honest with everyone i thought he kicked the killers Ass in this film!. the killer is also pretty damn strong! i will admit it, and the guy fights like a psycho! but in my opinion Josh Stewart was even more of a Badass than the killer was! especially in the last part of the film when they fight with each other!,that was probably the best part in the whole film!.The fight was really good! and quite Brutal.I will say all though this film has a few flaws it is really Action packed! and its very fast moving so the film never gets boring, even when nothing happens it doesn't get boring because of the tension the film holds when the characters are trapped in the house and have to get past all the booby traps.I have to say although i thought this film was good i actually liked the first film better the collector and i think it is better than this film but not by much,i just thought that the Collector was more suspenseful that's all, where as this film is less about suspense and more about lots of bloody kills and creepy moments and full blown Action. there is nothing wrong with the Action by the way,its just that this film didn't hold the same suspense as the collector which is what i liked about that film.but i will say this film was Very Good! and it has so many dangerous traps and kills that it will keep anyone watching even if they are not a horror fan.what i mean is this film is definitely NOT boring,it never gets boring because so many things are happening. For a horror film this is pretty good, its definitely much better than most horror films out there today and overall it's a Very Thrilling and intense Movie and I highly recommend it!.
This carries over from the first movie. The Collector was absolutely exhilarating from start to finish. I enjoyed The Collector to a certain extent, and gave it a lot of credit, but this ups the ante in a HUGE way. It doesn't give you many chances to breathe. This one has more to play with, and more of a bigger feel. It has nail-biting suspense, the traps are more elaborate, and downright insane. It's one of the nastiest movies I've ever seen, and makes Jigsaw look like Barney in comparison. I'm not gonna spoil all the red surprises, but here's some stuff you'll see. <more>
We get vicious stabbings, a hook in the mouth, gunshot wounds, bloody corpses, bone cracking which made cringe, incredibly gory traps, and one scene around the beginning involving huge spikes at a club. The spike scene feels like something that came from Dead Alive, with how outrageously gory it was. I watched it twice, because I couldn't believe my eyes. If you love gore, this will be a dream come true for you guys. Saw has some nasty gore scenes as well, but I believe this firmly outdoes it. I'm not trying to over-hype this, I'm just trying to tell you that the gore delivers in a big way. As I stated in my Collector review, this guy isn't doing this for revenge. He is just a sick bastard, who gets his rocks off on killing people in the most deplorable ways imaginable. Jigsaw had a motive for doing what he does. The Collector is just a freak of nature, and has no ulterior motives for doing this sick stuff. To me, that makes him all the more terrifying. I also have to give this major kudos for giving me characters I truly cared about, instead of the disposable fodder I tend to get in some horror films. We have a hero, and a heroine. Arkin Josh Stewart was our reluctant hero in the first movie, and it was a pleasure to watch him again in this one. He's certainly a flawed hero. He does some cowardly things, and he makes mistakes. When push comes to shove, he gets the job done, and puts others first, before himself. That to me is a real person. His vulnerable, yet courageous performance had me on his side the whole way. Emma Fitzpatrick is just great as Elena. She is courageous herself, and is one of my favorite female horror performers to come along in some time. This girl has major talent, and I hope people see that. Christopher McDonald has a small role as Elena's Father. It's nothing to write home about, but he did well with what he had to do. I'll give you an example about how much the lead characters meant to me. There is a battle in the finale with Arkin & the Collector With a bit of involvement from Elena The Collector is so despicable, I found myself literally yelling encouragement towards Arkin. "Get that son of a b****i***tch" "F###@ him up good!" The hero's survival meant everything to me. The ending to me was truly satisfying. After all of the twisted things The Collector does, I was a happy horror camper. I won't reveal what happens, but let's just say it was a fitting end. If they want to, a sequel is certainly possible. I'd definitely be up for it!Final Thoughts: With the Evil Dead remake, and now this film. I can now wash all that Paranormal Activity crap down a lot easier. You gotta take the good with the bad, because you end up getting gems like this one. I had a blast with this film. It's scary, suspenseful, extremely gory, and everything you need in a horror film. I was pumped after finishing this movie. It really got my adrenaline going. I'm gonna go out on a limb here, and say Jigsaw has nothing on the Collector. 9/10
So here is something new for me -- Watching a horror movie sequel, not knowing it's a sequel, and it being good enough that I want to see the original. Weird, huh? Don't get me wrong, it has it's faults. An incredible body count that would draw the attention of the CIA, FBI, and any local police much less the Criminal Minds-type teams. It's completely impossible to have that many dead bodies in building and it not just REEK of death to the point you can't go in. But... it's a horror movie. Just go with it.If you can just go with it, and you like really scary, <more>
psychological thrilling, torture-porn horror flicks like SAW, it's pretty good. It's certainly scary, quite unpredictable, and the acting is actually... not terrible. The plot is original. It's very gory. But it didn't come across as being all about the gore. It had you thinking, "What would I do if I was in that situation." Most of the time, my answer was - Sit down and cry.I compare it to the Saw franchise, because it was written by some of the guys who wrote some of those, and because of the sadistic puzzles the people had to go through. But it really isn't the same as Saw because the plot was different. I would say if you like the Saw movies, you'd really enjoy this. If you didn't, don't waste you time. It's wouldn't be your type of film.I gave it an 8 meaning it to be compared only to other horror movies, not to all movies in general. It certainly isn't for non-horror people. And it isn't a family film. Some of it was very hard to watch. I was proud of the fact that the ticket seller refused to sell a ticket to the 20-year-old in front of me trying to buy tickets for the 10 and 12 year olds she brought to this. It's not for kiddies at all.I'm going to get part 1 The Collector on Netflix, then hope part 3 if there is one is as good.
Didn't even know the original existed (by dfranzen70)
Normally, I'd say that a movie that features a man wearing a cross between a gimp mask and a ski mask and is a sequel to boot would be a slim-pickings kind of movie, a low-budget, midnight-madness movie. Not a good movie. But The Collection is very surprisingly good. Well, it does help if you're into bloody violent movies, I suppose. But still: I'd never heard of its predecessor The Collector , so why would I expect this to be anything but soul-suckingly dull?Right from the beginning, you're smacked with gore. A quartet of teens heads to a happening party at an old warehouse, <more>
with a special password required to get in. But after a few dances are danced and a few feels are copped, our evil killer shows up, behind the scenes, and sets forth a Rube Goldberg series of devices to slaughter almost everyone. Well, you know, some are left behind for extra special torture and such, but the movie doesn't dwell on them as Hostel did , and of course one of them, Elena Emma Fitzpatrick actually survives. Elena finds a man trapped in a box, and when she lets him out, yet another trap is unleashed that just nearly gets her. Then there's a running around bit, then the man-no-longer-in-the-box uses the body of a dead teen to escape the building entirely. The following gives nothing away. The man is who's left from the first film, apparently, and although he thinks he's escaped for good, some surly looking henchmen with guns come looking for him. Apparently our Elena has a moneyed father who's hired mercenaries to get her back, and our mystery man Arkin Josh Stewart is the only possible key; he must lead them to the killer's lair. Those of you who have read this far like this kind of movie, probably. You liked the Saw films, more or less. Well, this is like Saw in that there's plenty of icky fluids and shock value, but there's really none of the morality. Not a whit, and that's not a bad thing. What we have is a collector of humans for various purposes. We don't know why. We don't care why. We just want to get out of this place. Sometimes movies try the same tricks over and over to spook the audience, and eventually the return on investment withers on the vine. But here, even late into the game, moments occur that just seem out of nowhere, blindsiding you into chills. This is a movie that quite consciously decides not to show you everything, to allow looming darkness scare you more than the horrors you can see. As an aside, they're both kind of terrifying. So as a horror movie, this is stunningly stylish without being glossy or gratuitous - at least as far as horror movies are concerned. It's well- thought-out frights; that's what I'm getting at. The characters aren't superficial, but we don't know much more than we really need to know about them. Frankly, for some we know almost nothing, and that too is a good thing. Their backstories could even be a movie. Who knows. The Collection is an artistic gem in the realm of the macabre, a seamless combination of slasher movies and psychological thrillers. The acting is minimalistic, as befits the genre, and the effects are complex and, at times, mind boggling.
THE COLLECTION 2012 **1/2 Josh Stewart, Emma Fitzpatrick, Lee Tergesen, Christopher McDonald, Navi Rawat, Randall Archer, Johanna Braddy, Daniel Sharman, Andre Royo, Brandon Molale, Erin Way. Sequel to the torture porn horror flick THE COLLECTOR, takes up immediately after its conclusion with the survivor of a serial killer's rampage Stewart who is enlisted to help save the young girl of the crazed murderer's booby-trapped lair. Tag-team director/writers Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton cook up some elaborate horrific Rube Goldbergian jerry- rigged set pieces but it grows tedious <more>
quickly after there is little character development or involvement outside the leads and becomes a chore to sit through the next viscerally graphic carnage at hand.
