The Best Mumbo-Jumbo Hollywood Has Ever Cooked Up! (by Goodmovielover) |
Taking Agatha Christie's "Ten Little Indians", and giving it a satanic twist, really livens up the original story about a bunch of people who end up at a mansion, in this case to inherit the legacy of the owner. Katharine Ross and Sam Elliott star as an interior decorator and her husband hired to go to England to redesign a house. Upon arriving they rent a Motorcycle and sidecar and are almost killed when a rolls royce almost collides with them. The owner of the car invites them to his mansion for tea while the cycle is repaired. Little do they know this is the same man that has <more> |
Excellent (by reikidrake) |
This movie contained the passage of an ancient power from one being to another. The acting excellent, and the man choked on a chicken bone not a fish bone. Nurse took care of everything, who also happened to be the familiar of the one passing the power. Sam Elliot played and excellent role in this movie. It stayed very close to the book which for the time period was quite unusual. For anyone who enjoys wonderful occult films, this is a good one. I highly recommend it. The story begins with a reunion of sorts, those who are in line for the passing of the power. They come from all walks of <more> |
Well-made supernatural version of crime classic (by Sibelius1865) |
An excellent little movie, though it might be wasted on anyone likely to get disappointed by 1970s special effects or confused by the intrusion of a plot. It's a well-made supernatural re-working of Agatha Christie's "And then there were None" Originally "Ten Little Nigger Boys" and starts when the descendents of a 17th century witch gather at an English country house in the hope of receiving part of the family legacy. Instead, they get a dose of poetic justice delivered from beyond the grave. Don't expect to be scared out of your skin, just entertained for a <more> |
Great analysis of a highly symbolic horror film! (by WriteJoe72) |
One of the great things about this movie is a hidden narrative that works as subtext just below the surface. The movie is really about how a couple can be divided. If you have not yet seen the movie please watch it before reading any more.Pete Danner Sam Elliott and Maggie Walsh Katharine Ross are a young couple who get a mysterious call to England to work on some interior design. The very first scene in the movie has key symbols for decoding the subtext. The place in which they live is absolutely gorgeous with plants and trees, beautiful flowers -- it's as if they are living in a <more> |
When The Six Are Summoned Only One Will Be Granted The Ultimate Power. (by buckikris) |
I caught this movie on T.V. back in the early 80's when I was about 9. I forgot all about it until about five years ago. I loved the movie so much from a young age I just had to get the DVD; and it still has that creepy chill factor to it. It especially gives you that tingling up and down your spine around Halloween/winter. The movie is about this young American couple who get a job offer in England. Maggie Kathrine Ross and Pete Sam Elliott . Once there they check out London, before taking off to the English countryside. Once there everything seems to be going fine. They are traveling <more> |
A creepy and well-made chiller. (by marlindobbs) |
I just viewed the re-release on DVD finally and even though the movie has a slower pace than I remember when I saw it in theaters in the late 70s, it definitely is chilling and has a sinister atmosphere throughout. The movie is well-made and has good production values, and for the most part it holds up well over time. The story gets a bit confusing and frustrating... but it does wrap up decently. The performances are quite good: Katharine Ross carries the lead well as the bewildered heiress, although somewhat detached. Roger Daltrey's role is fun, but too brief. Margaret Tyzack is <more> |

he's the devil. (by samanthaweewee) |
i love the atmosphere here. the spooky castle, and the beautiful countryside. and you can feel the sheer frustration in their relentless inability to "drive away" from the place forever. it's clear that mountolive is Satan. he's dying, and he wants someone to pass on his power to. he chooses her, over all the other snobs and weirdos who thought they were the rightful heirs. That's why they all die off; Satan kills them, in favor of saving maggie. It's almost depressing when, at the end, she accepts her new position, rather than continuing to fight it. i think this is <more> |
